Malaysia and Egypt have agreed to expand trade and investment cooperation across key sectors, including semiconductors, renewable energy, digital technology, agriculture and manufacturing, to create new economic opportunities and improve access to regional markets.
The agreement followed talks between Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi on Saturday, during the Egyptian leader’s first state visit to Malaysia from October 9 to 10.
In a joint statement, both leaders highlighted the untapped potential of bilateral economic ties and pledged to promote business cooperation in agriculture, halal industries, education, technical and vocational training, digital transformation, renewable energy, infrastructure, automotive manufacturing and semiconductors.

Both countries also underscored their strategic locations as gateways to ASEAN, Arab, African and European markets.
The discussions build on the Malaysia-Egypt Strategic Partnership established in November 2024 in Cairo, reflecting a shared commitment to expanding economic, political and diplomatic engagement.
Both leaders further agreed to hold the Second Joint Commission Meeting and Second Bilateral Consultations to advance cooperation under the strategic partnership. Malaysia and Egypt also identified stronger air connectivity as a key driver of economic ties and encouraged their national airlines to pursue closer cooperation to support tourism, business travel, trade and cultural exchanges.

Malaysia will continue capacity-building support through the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Program (MTCP). The renewed cooperation comes amid growing bilateral trade between the two countries.
According to Bernama, bilateral trade rose 74.7% to RM3.49 billion in the first eight months of 2026. In 2025, Egypt was Malaysia’s seventh-largest trading partner in Africa, with trade totalling RM3.08 billion, including RM2.55 billion in exports and RM530 million in imports.
Both countries further expressed interest in strengthening ASEAN–African Union cooperation to expand cross-regional trade, investment and diplomatic ties.
Separately, Malaysia reiterated its ambition to become a full BRICS member and expressed its intention to work with Egypt and other member countries.
