Cambodia and Vietnam have launched a new international land border crossing to boost tourism, trade and transport links, strengthening regional connectivity and advancing their $20 billion bilateral trade target.
The Khanh Binh-Chrey Thom international border crossing connects Vietnam’s southern An Giang province with Cambodia’s Kandal province, creating an additional route for passenger and commercial traffic between the two countries. The border gate was officially inaugurated earlier this month.
The new crossing is expected to facilitate travel for local residents and international visitors while enhancing logistics, cross-border trade and cooperation between communities on both sides. It is also anticipated to support multi-destination tourism by making it easier for visitors to include both Cambodia and Vietnam in a single itinerary.

The opening of the new border comes as Cambodia and Vietnam accelerate efforts to deepen economic cooperation, a development that is particularly significant for Cambodia as it expands regional trade links following the closure of land border crossings by Thai authorities.
According to Cambodia’s General Department of Customs and Excise, bilateral trade between the two countries reached approximately $5.97 billion in the first eight months of 2026, representing a 7% increase year over year. Both governments have set a target of raising annual bilateral trade to $20 billion.
Beyond its economic significance, the new border crossing is expected to promote tourism and strengthen people-to-people ties between Cambodia and Vietnam, as travel between the two countries continues to grow.

Data from the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism showed that Cambodian visitor arrivals exceeded 688,000 during the first nine months of 2026, representing a 40.5% increase from the previous year. Meanwhile, figures from Cambodia’s Ministry of Tourism indicated that Vietnamese arrivals reached more than 586,000 between January and August, although this marked a 27.6% decline year over year.
The opening of the Khanh Binh–Chrey Thom crossing follows the inauguration of the Muen Chey–Tan Nam international border gate last year, which connects Cambodia’s Prey Veng province with Vietnam’s Tay Ninh province.
