Türkiye and Malaysia sealed a new high-level strategic partnership on Wednesday during Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s visit to Ankara, with Türkiye President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan declaring a $10 billion bilateral trade goal.
Ibrahim described the $10 billion bilateral trade target between Malaysia and Türkiye as achievable, highlighting the countries’ complementary strengths and broader collaboration through the newly formed High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council.
The leaders convened the inaugural Strategic Cooperation Council meeting at the Presidential Complex on Tuesday, signing a series of agreements covering education, investment, defense procurement, and technology.

Erdoğan affirmed that collaborative efforts would boost trade to the targeted level. Erdoğan voiced confidence that these collaborative efforts would boost trade to meet the $10 billion target, underscoring the long-standing ties between Türkiye and Malaysia.
Defense industry collaboration was a major focus of the talks, with leaders confirming the continuation of existing projects and outlining plans for new joint initiatives. Among the agreements signed was an acceptance letter between Türkiye’s DESAN Shipyards and Malaysia’s Ministry of Home Affairs for the acquisition of a multipurpose mission vessel.
The two countries also committed to enhancing bilateral investments and connectivity, particularly in logistics, maritime transport, port development, aviation, and multimodal transport, along with emerging economic corridors linking Europe, the Middle East, and the Asia-Pacific.

Energy cooperation was highlighted as a central pillar of the partnership, with both countries voicing interest in joint efforts across energy transition, renewables, nuclear power, clean hydrogen, battery innovation, electricity, and efficiency.
Both nations also agreed to expand cooperation in information and communication technology, enhancing partnerships in artificial intelligence, semiconductors, space and satellite systems, biotechnology, digitalization, and research and development.
The leaders also reiterated their goal of boosting bilateral trade to $10 billion, emphasizing the need to fully leverage the Malaysia–Türkiye Free Trade Agreement.
