What began as a vision to modernize Bangladesh’s agricultural infrastructure has evolved into one of South Asia’s most respected integrated agribusiness and cold-chain enterprises.
Founded by visionary entrepreneur Mr. Salim Chowdhury, Europa Group has redefined the nation’s food preservation and export landscape since the establishment of Europa Cold Storage in 1992.
In the early 1990s, when cold-chain logistics were still in their infancy, Mr. Chowdhury identified a crucial gap between agricultural production and post-harvest storage.
To address this, he built a landmark cold storage facility in Mansurganj, near Dhaka, the heart of Bangladesh’s largest potato-growing region.
With a capacity of 1,000 metric tons and a capital expenditure of $5 million, it became the country’s largest facility of its kind, equipped with advanced Danish technology.

This initiative significantly reduced post-harvest losses and boosted the regional agricultural economy by providing hundreds of farmers with reliable storage infrastructure.
Building on this foundation, Europa expanded into food processing in 2004 with a potato flakes and powder manufacturing plant in the same region.
Developed with a CAPEX of $12 million and machinery imported from the Netherlands, the plant operates as a 100% Export-Oriented Unit (EOU).
Supported by funding from Credit Suisse Bank, the facility supplies premium potato flakes and powder to international buyers across Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.
Through its commitment to quality and technological innovation, Europa has strengthened Bangladesh’s standing in the global agri-export market.

Today, Europa Group’s influence extends well beyond storage and processing. The company is steadily expanding its role in international food trade, export logistics, and agri-produce distribution, particularly across GCC markets, with a growing presence in the UAE.
The Emirates’ fruits, vegetables, and seafood market, valued at over $9.8 billion in 2024, is expected to grow at a 6.1% CAGR through 2030.
Given that the UAE imports about 90% of its fruits and vegetables and 85% of its seafood, Europa’s export-driven production base in Bangladesh is strategically positioned to serve this high-demand market.
Sustainability remains central to Europa’s philosophy. The Group’s operations promote direct partnerships with farmers, ensuring access to scientific storage methods, fair pricing, and long-term contracts.
Its facilities employ energy-efficient refrigeration and zero-waste production models, reflecting Mr. Chowdhury’s commitment to environmental responsibility and inclusive growth.

Carrying the legacy forward, Mr. Shihab Chowdhury, the next-generation leader, is steering Europa’s expansion with a focus on innovation, international partnerships, and strategic market networking.
Europa’s global operations are supported by Panache Power Projects Global (UAE), which advises on international market expansion, and Utility Power Ventures (India), which provides technical maintenance and operational guidance for the Group’s cold storage infrastructure.
Under the visionary guidance of Mr. Salim Chowdhury and the dynamic leadership of Mr. Shihab Chowdhury, Europa Group stands as a symbol of Bangladesh’s industrial transformation, rising from a single regional facility to a global exporter of value-added agricultural products.
With plans to establish distribution centers in the UAE and Saudi Arabia, the Group continues to pursue growth across the Middle East’s expanding retail market.
