Türkiye will manufacture and export 48 domestically developed Kaan fighter jets to Indonesia as part of a newly established defense agreement. On Wednesday, Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan declared that Türkiye has finalized a defense agreement with Indonesia to supply 48 Kaan fighter jets marking the first export deal for the domestically developed aircraft, which is still in its development phase.
“Indonesia’s local capabilities will also be utilized in the production of Kaan,” Erdoğan wrote on X. The agreement was finalized at the Indo Defence 2025 exhibition in Jakarta, with participation from Turkish defense firms.

The Turkish president did not provide specifics or financial details about what he described as a ‘record’ agreement. However, Turkish media reported that the contract is valued at approximately $10 billion. According to Anadolu Agency, the deal covers the production and delivery of advanced aircraft to Indonesia over the next 10 years. Additionally, TRT Haber stated that the agreement also includes technology transfer to Indonesia.
Türkiye has been developing the Kaan fighter jet for nearly a decade. The fifth-generation warplane was officially revealed in 2023 and completed its maiden test flight in early 2024. Serial production is to be commenced in 2028.
Jakarta views the Kaan as a key solution for its aging F-16 fleet while also addressing the void created by its separation from South Korea’s KF-21 project.

Erdogan highlighted the agreement as a reflection of the advancements and successes of Türkiye’s domestic and national defense industry. He also acknowledged Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto’s role in securing the agreement.
The agreement was reached as Turkey and Indonesia continued to strengthen their economic and defense partnership. Earlier this year, both nations secured plans to jointly establish a Baykar combat drone production facility in Indonesia.
