Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan stated that Türkiye and Egypt aim to substantially strengthen the economic ties, with a new bilateral trade target of $15 billion, during high-level talks held in Cairo on Wednesday.
The Turkish president arrived in Cairo on Wednesday, where he was received by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.
“Egypt continues to be Türkiye’s biggest trade partner in Africa,” Erdoğan said. “We aim to increase our bilateral trade volume, which has remained in the 8–9 billion dollar range over the past three years, to 15 billion dollars.”
The remarks followed a private meeting between the two presidents, which led to broader delegation talks and the signing of cooperation agreements in economic, technical, and institutional fields.

On Tuesday, Egypt and Türkiye had also concluded several memoranda of understanding (MoUs) covering defense, trade, health, agriculture, and social policy.
Erdoğan highlighted the expanding footprint of Turkish businesses in Egypt, noting that Turkish investments in the country have nearly reached $4 billion. He emphasized that both nations are keen to pursue new opportunities for mutual investment and joint ventures.
He further emphasized that Ankara and Cairo are focused on collaborating across strategic sectors such as energy and transportation, indicating a shift from conventional trade toward long-term industrial and infrastructure partnerships.

President el-Sisi stressed that the discussions demonstrated a mutual political commitment to advancing bilateral relations to a strategic level. He emphasized the importance of deepening economic integration, fostering private sector collaboration, and promoting trade in a balanced and sustainable manner.
The meeting represented a further step in the ongoing restoration of relations between Türkiye and Egypt following years of tension.
In recent months, the two nations have strengthened diplomatic engagement, reinstated high-level dialogue mechanisms, and established the Egypt–Türkiye High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council to institutionalize collaboration across political, economic, and security domains.
