The Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture (NACCIMA), together with the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) and the Nigeria Customs Service, has launched a new framework designed to boost agricultural trade facilitation and improve Nigeria’s export competitiveness.
The framework was presented in Lagos at an event titled ‘Strengthening ECOWAS Agricultural Markets to Drive Food Security and Regional Prosperity.’
This initiative seeks to enhance Nigeria’s contribution to regional food supply, increase market efficiency, and establish the country as a key center for agricultural trade in West Africa.
In a statement issued on Friday, NACCIMA Director General Olusola Obadimu quoted NACCIMA President Jani Ibrahim, noting that the framework supports national objectives to harness Nigeria’s agricultural potential and expand economic opportunities throughout the value chain.

He emphasized that the initiative comes at a pivotal moment for West Africa, as the region works toward unified strategies to reinforce its food systems.
“We have the potential not only to feed ourselves but the entire African continent,” Ibrahim said. “This agro-trade corridor is very important for us. At NACCIMA, we say that production exports prosperity and production imports prosperity,” he added.
Ibrahim stated that the new framework is designed to improve processes, foster collaboration among institutions, and upgrade the infrastructure to ensure smoother cross‑border movement of agricultural goods.

Arne Schuffenhauer, Project Leader for EAT Nigeria, highlighted the initiative as a significant advancement in strengthening regional food markets.
Backed by the German government in collaboration with the ECOWAS Commission and partners across five West African nations, the program aims to expand market access and reduce trade barriers.
Schuffenhauer affirmed that the initiative will broaden information access, create new market opportunities, and provide backing for SMEs, particularly agribusinesses led by women and youth.
