Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has called on the State-owned garment corporation on May 10 to transform into an international fashion group that is deeply integrated into global value chains and plays a stronger role in developing Vietnam’s fashion industry.
Speaking at a ceremony in Hanoi on January 8 marking the company’s 80th founding anniversary, the Prime Minister outlined key priorities to ensure May 10 remains a leading force in Vietnam’s textile and garment sector in the new development phase.
He urged the corporation to accelerate green and digital transformation, move toward net-zero emissions, and expand the use of artificial intelligence and big data in production.
He also called for upgrading its position in global value chains by shifting from basic processing to higher-value models such as FOB and ODM, while building a global brand that reflects Vietnamese intelligence and culture.
The Prime Minister advised on May 10 to better utilize free trade agreements, strengthen its domestic market presence under the ‘Vietnamese people prioritise Vietnamese goods’ campaign, invest in human resources, strengthen corporate culture, and reinforce Party building within the enterprise.

He praised the company’s eight-decade record, describing it as a consistent pioneer that has preserved the spirit of ‘Uncle Ho’s soldiers’ in economic development.
Founded in 1946 from small military garment workshops in the Viet Bac resistance base, May 10’s growth has mirrored Vietnam’s modern history, from wartime production to reform and deep international integration, eventually becoming a leading national brand in textiles and garments.
Throughout its development, the corporation has followed a people-centred approach, treating workers as its most valuable asset. It was among the first enterprises to establish kindergartens, training institutions, healthcare facilities, and a comprehensive welfare system, enabling long-term employment stability across generations.
Today, May 10, it employs more than 10,000 workers across seven provinces and cities. Despite global economic volatility, the company maintained stable growth in 2025, recording total import-export turnover of 328 million USD, including more than 200 million USD in exports.
Revenue reached 5.14 trillion VND, profit stood at 212 billion VND, and average monthly income exceeded 11 million VND per worker.
The corporation has twice received the Hero title from the Party and State, along with many other national honors. It has set a target of reaching 1 billion USD in import-export turnover by 2030 and aims to secure a firm position in the global fashion industry.

Reviewing the company’s milestones, Prime Minister Chinh recalled President Ho Chi Minh’s visit on May 10 in January 1959, when he emphasized sound thinking, thrift in production, and dedication to work. These values, the Prime Minister said, continue to shape the company’s culture of discipline, creativity, and efficiency.
He noted that Vietnam has grown from a poor country into a leading global exporter, with total trade turnover surpassing 930 billion USD. The textile and garment sector remains a key pillar with exports of about 46 billion USD, placing Vietnam among the world’s top three exporters, with May 10 making significant contributions to these results.
The Prime Minister also commended May 10’s performance in 2025, highlighting double-digit profit growth despite market challenges and its flexibility in strengthening domestic sales when export markets weakened.
He described the corporation as a model enterprise combining business vision with social responsibility, citing its welfare programs such as childcare from six months of age, education support for workers’ children, and on-site healthcare services.
May 10 was further praised for leading both green and digital transitions, with investments in traceability systems, clean energy, artificial intelligence, and green factories. These efforts have raised labor productivity by 52%, reduced costs, and ensured compliance with strict EU and U.S. market standards, the Prime Minister said.
At the ceremony, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh awarded the First-Class Labor Order to May 10 Corporation and Third-Class Labor Orders to outstanding individuals in recognition of their contributions.
