Indonesia and the UK on Monday launched an Economic Growth Partnership in London, intended to strengthen collaboration across key strategic sectors during Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto’s official visit to Britain.
Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, and the UK’s Secretary of State for Business and Trade, Peter Kyle, signed the partnership, accompanied by a series of high-level meetings.
“We have agreed to enhance our trade cooperation in a whole range of priority sectors, such as clean energy, digital economy, infrastructure, transport, education, and healthcare,” British Ambassador to Indonesia Dominic Jermey said.
Jeremy noted that the newly signed document forms part of a deeper strategic partnership, which the leaders are expected to announce in the near future.

The governments are expected to reveal further details of the document later.
Jeremy added that both nations sought to capitalize on the momentum from a landmark 2025 maritime agreement valued at £4 billion. Under the deal, British defense company Babcock would assist in enhancing Indonesia’s naval capabilities and provide vessels for local fishermen. The UK expressed confidence that the agreement could create 1,000 jobs domestically.
The partnership further strengthens initiatives to tackle non-tariff barriers, assist exporters, and expand bilateral investment, generating new business opportunities and economic advantages for both nations.

Data from Indonesia’s Trade Ministry indicated that exports to the UK reached approximately $1.4 billion from January to November 2025. During this period, Indonesia shipped roughly $7.7 million worth of mineral fuels to the UK—nearly double the volume recorded the previous year. The country also posted a trade surplus of $459.5 million with the UK over the same eleven months.
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) projected year-on-year growth of 1.3% for the UK and 5.1% for Indonesia. From 2019 through September 2024, the UK invested a total of $2.28 billion in Indonesia.
