China has pledged to promote its investors in establishing electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing Plants in Nigeria. Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai, underscored the importance of stronger collaboration between China and Nigeria to harness Nigeria’s solid minerals sector, particularly through the establishment of electric vehicle factories.
During a courtesy visit to Dr. Dele Alake, Minister of Solid Minerals Development, over the weekend, Dunhai acknowledged Nigeria’s abundant natural resources and its strategic significance in China’s foreign policy. The ambassador highlighted that Chinese investors setting up EV factories would strengthen cooperation between China and Nigeria, particularly in the solid minerals sector.

Reflecting on a recent high-level meeting between Presidents Bola Tinubu and Xi Jinping in China, Dunhai emphasized that both leaders had committed to strengthening bilateral ties by exploring new opportunities for collaboration.
Dunhai reaffirmed that both the Chinese Embassy and the Chinese Government have consistently encouraged Chinese companies operating in Nigeria to strictly follow local regulations, uphold Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), and maintain environmental and safety standards.
He stressed China’s firm stance against illegal mining and zero-tolerance policy.

Minister Alake reiterated that Nigeria welcomes serious investors, emphasizing that the country’s mining industry is now prioritizing local value addition. He urged the Chinese Ambassador to encourage Chinese investors to engage in full-cycle investments, ensuring that mining activities—from extraction to processing—occur within Nigeria, leveraging its large market and EV production to reduce dependence on fossil fuels.
Ambassador Dunhai voiced his support for Nigeria’s local value-addition policy, stating that African industrialization is a key priority for President Xi Jinping. He further disclosed that plans are already in motion to establish electric vehicle factories and other manufacturing projects in Nigeria.
