Bangladesh is preparing to export mangoes to China for the first time, with the initial consignment scheduled for dispatch this week, according to a government official as reported by China Daily.
Bangladesh’s agriculture secretary, Mohammad Emdad Ullah Mian, stated at a news conference in Dhaka last week that the country’s first shipment to the new export market will take place on Wednesday.
He mentioned that approximately 50 tons of mangoes are scheduled for export to China this year, with ongoing discussions involving Chinese authorities and the Chinese ambassador in Dhaka to expand shipments. Additionally, plans are in place to export jackfruit from Bangladesh to China in multiple phases.

After Chief Adviser Prof. Muhammad Yunus’ recent visit to China, the government has ramped up initiatives to expand agricultural exports, with a particular focus on mangoes, to the Chinese market.
The secretary highlighted that the government has developed a long-term strategy to ensure the sustainability and timely execution of mango exports to China. He emphasized that the initiative aligns with a broader food security agenda aimed at providing safe and nutritious food for all by 2050.
He further explained that the plan is expected to be finalized within the tenure of the current interim government.

Bangladesh yields approximately 2.7 million tons of mangoes each year and currently exports to multiple destinations. To boost exports to China and other international markets, the government is rolling out various projects and incentive programs supporting mango growers.
Al Mamun Mridha, former secretary-general of the Bangladesh China Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCCI), emphasized the strong potential for Bangladeshi mango exports to China.
He noted that the rising demand for tropical fruits in China, along with duty-free access under the Asia-Pacific Trade Agreement and complementary harvest seasons, provides a strategic advantage for Bangladesh in expanding its export market.
